A true “softmod” is now available for all Xbox 360 revisions *except Corona and Winchester called Peer Pressure. This was created by developer Grimdoomer and relies on their BadUpdate hypervisor to launch the installation from a USB stick. This will allow basically the same functionality as original Xbox softmods, allowing it to boot into an “unlocked” mode. It also appears the softmod is completely reversible, should you ever want to put the console back to stock. Modern Vintage Gamer did a good overview video above and Mr Mario 2011 posted an excellent installation tutorial (linked below) that will walk you through exactly what to do.

This is pretty exciting for 360 fans, as for a long time, hardmods were were rquired to run homebrew. And while BadUpdate is awesome, a true softmod like this is better overall. It looked pretty easy as well, with the only caveat being the hard drive – That’s required, but what type and how it’s installed is something you should pay attention to.
*As a note, those two later revisions of the Xbox have the exploit used for this softmod patched in hardware, so it’s most likely those versions can never be softmodded.
