Quirky RPG Resonance of Fate Is Back with an 'Enhanced Remaster' for PS5

Who had the PS3 role-playing game Resonance of Fate receiving a second remaster for PS5 on their 2026 bingo card? Having already been enhanced on PS4, the quirky RPG has been treated to an "enhanced remaster", out today on PS5.

This latest version features two additional enhancements over the PS4 remaster: even better graphics and the ability to play it at double the speed.

Towns and characters now have "upscaled textures", while a new decimation filter in the pause menu "further refines fine details, such as hair, for a sharper, more beautiful presentation than that of the previous 4K/HD Edition". If you want to play the title at a quicker pace, then a new "2x Game Speed" option makes "field exploration, battles, and events" all run at twice the speed of the original.

There's also native 4K visual output and HDR support.

Anyone who already owns the PS4 version of Resonance of Fate can upgrade to this new PS5 edition for $10. If you do not have it, then buying the Enhanced Remaster outright costs £28.99 / $34.99.

Resonance of Fate is an unusual RPG from the PS3 days that blends real-time and turn-based combat, and you're using guns rather than swords. I've always been interested in trying it, but have never found the free time to invest. It is a 50+ hour RPG, after all.

While this trailer is of the first remaster on the PS4, you can get a taste of what it's all about below:

We've never reviewed the game here on the site, but the Metacritic average score for the original Xbox 360 version sits at a 74. At the time, Eurogamer said: "This is a hugely interesting game, as fascinating as it is frequently frustrating, as engaging as it is eccentric and, for those who are hooked by its quirky charms, it will provide one of the most inspired approaches to the JRPG seen in a decade."

I'd love to find the time to sit down and play through this... one day.
