Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun is a true classic - one I remember excitedly reading magazine previews about and it continues to live on. A community of fans have announced OpenTS, a community-led, open-source reconstruction of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun.
They give some more info on what it is and what it is not:
OpenTS is:
- An independent, community-led source reconstruction targeting the behavior of Tiberian Sun 2.03 Firestorm;
- A playable engine built from Electronic Arts' GPL-released source for related Command & Conquer games and Tiberian Sun-specific reverse engineering;
- The active foundation for continued maintenance, documentation, technical modernization, bug fixes, and new modding capabilities.
OpenTS is not:
- A remaster or a remake;
- An official Electronic Arts source release;
- A distribution of the original game assets.
You do need to own a copy of the game to play it with OpenTS. Additionally, there seems to be no plans for Native Linux support but it appears to work on Linux with Proton 11 as captured in my screenshot above.
Seems we can't get away from AI models anywhere now. As they did use some generative AI coding tool models to help with certain bits:
"AI models — Codex, Claude, and DeepSeek — substantially accelerated the final phase. They were given disassembly, decompiled pseudocode, surrounding reconstructed source, engine context, compiler errors, and binary-diff feedback, and helped interpret functions, generate candidate implementations, and iterate toward closer matches. Their output was never treated as authoritative: every candidate was reviewed by developers, compiled, compared against the reference executable."
They seem to at least know what they're doing and verify everything.
You can see their announcement livestream of it on YouTube.
