All new Fortnite Sprites dropping September 17: Here’s what they do

Fortnite is adding five new Sprites to the loot pool in update v42.20, launching on Thursday, Sept. 17. Three of the five are themed appropriately to this season, including a Crash Bandicoot, Pac-Man, and Persona Sprite.

This article breaks down everything you need to know about these Sprites and what you can expect when they arrive in-game.

All new Sprites confirmed for the September 17 update

The following Sprites will join the Sprites that are already in Chapter 7 Season 4:

  • Crash Bandicoot Sprite – Jumping triggers a whirlwind attack that damages and knocks back nearby enemies. Damage increases and cooldown decreases with each level up
  • Blinky Sprite (Pac-Man) – Grants a cloak for a duration when you take damage. Cloak duration increases with each level up.
  • Morgana Sprite (Persona) – Increases the effectiveness of healing items. Healing effectiveness increases with each level up.
  • Pond Sprite (Design-A-Sprite winner) – Jump shortly after loading to trigger a ‘Super Jump,’ if charges are present. Gain charges over time. Super Jump strength increases and cooldown decreases with each level up.
  • Birthday Sprite – Opening chests has a chance to spawn a piece of cake. Eliminations can spawn cake at max level. Chance to spawn cake increases with each level up.

All new Fortnite Sprites will spawn in with Cheat Master, Loot Hacker, and Gold variants.

Where can I find these Sprites in Fortnite?

As outlined in the image above, Epic Games provides a small description of where you can find each Sprite for three of the five. You can find the Crash Bandicoot and Birthday Sprites in high and mountainous areas.

The Blinky Sprite appears exclusively on the map at night, but you can presumably loot it from enemies at any time. Unfortunately, we don’t have an explanation for the Pond Sprite and Morgana Sprite, but Sprite Chests are always a reliable starting point.

Will these new Sprites be any good?

The three standouts are the Morgana, Pond, and Crash Bandicoot Sprites, in that order. More effective healing items will always be useful in Fortnite, where heals can come at a premium.

While the ‘Super Jump’ aspect of the Pond Sprite is unclear, it could still be useful since it will make rotating easier. It’s a bit of a wildcard, but it’s the clear number two here.

Lastly is the Crash Bandicoot Sprite, another wildcard. Its usefulness will come down to the whirlwind mechanic and how it works. It could end up being the best of the five new Fortnite Sprites, but we will have to wait and see when the update drops on Sept. 17.
